Congratulations are in order for Ms. Chrystal Wasden!!! She was recently the recipient of the prestigious award, Liberty Bell Award. Ms. Wasden is the Clinical Director of the Phoenix Center and works directly with the Houston County Mental Health Accountability Court. She was nominated by Judge Katherine Lumsden. Please see below the program handout and picture!

Chatham County Sheriff Wilcher extends helping hand to jail veterans

Nationally, about 8 percent of those in jails or prisons are military veterans.

In Chatham County, at least 30 veterans find home in the jail, most with few if any resources available to assist them.

Sheriff John Wilcher, himself a veteran, wants to address the problem and provide veterans in his jail with tools to cope.

“We get these people in here and there’s nobody to help them,” Wilcher said Thursday. “We need to look after them."
